Glasshaus Italy: A note from Co-founders Lily and Tim

An art retreat.  A safe place to reflect and create.  A relaxing learning environment… However one describes it, Glasshaus Italy is a project that is years in the making.

In many ways, it is the culmination of our growth process thus far; creatively, spiritually, etc., both as individuals and as a couple.  For us, Glasshaus Italy is the place where everything that interests and delights us can live together, in harmony, under one roof, on one mound of earth!

Many of you may have come to know us from past visits to our other sites, BeadedLily.com and Tubularwiremeshribbon.com, which have been online now for several years.  If so, you will surely recognize many of the high quality jewelry-making products that we offer here on our new site, Glass-haus.org.

All of our beads and related products will still be sold under the Beaded Lily brand-name, and you can rest assured that you will receive the same high level of quality and service that you have come to expect from us. Lily will be sharing vintage bits of her bead stash on our website from time to time, so check back often and follow us on social media.  But, that said, Glasshaus Italy is not just the place where we sell our wares… It is also an expression of our desire to help to create the kind of community in which we want to live. A place where individuality and collective action are both celebrated. Where living in harmony with our planet and our neighbors is the standard. Where learning, teaching, creating, gardening, cooking, personal growth, etc. are seen by all to be worthy lifelong pursuits.

One thing that many of us long for, (and it’s a familiar theme nowadays), is community. A community of Creatives and Thinkers. Those who want to experience not just the mundane existence of serving one “master” or another, but who crave, instead, a lifetime spent exploring and concentrating on what really matters to the inner self, while sharing that journey with others who are also seeking more meaning from their own individual life-experiences.

To that end, the Glasshaus Italy experience is born. Geographically speaking, we’ve placed ourselves, and our artisan studio/home/teaching facility, in the bustling Tuscan town of Camaiore. Located in the area known as “Versilia,” in north-western Tuscany, (right near the border to Liguria), Camaiore is a great town for creative adventure.  The Apuan Alps soar above us,  and the golden sand laden beaches of the Mediterranean sea are only a few kilometers away.  The charming and traditional town center of Camaiore, with its cathedrals and chapels, restaurants, shops and myriad cafes, is just steps away from Glasshaus Italy’s front door. If exercise is on the agenda, there are nature trails, mountain hikes and climbing, natural swimming holes/waterfalls, and a beautiful river walk/bike path also within a short distance from our property. Florence is just over an hour away in one direction, as is Genova in the other. The stunning  and sophisticated art town of Pietrasanta is just a few minutes away by car (where Michelangelo purchased his marble) and it is also just a short drive to the beautiful towns of Lucca, Pisa, Forti dei Marmi, Massa and the famous marble quarries of Carrara. For those who choose not to have a vehicle during their stay, there is  local bus service and a train station near-by. (We  also have some funky bikes on the property to lend to Glasshaus Italy guests).

We invite you to browse our site to see our current offerings. Whether you are interested in glass bead making, jewelry making, mixed media exploration, spirituality, community building, trekking, gardening, healthful cooking, exploring Tuscany & Liguria or all of the above, we can put a wonderful program together to suit your individual or small group needs.  Whether you stay in our cozy on-site guest house or in another location near-by, our well equipped garden bead/art studio is available for you to take a class, purchase supplies, rent torch time, or to even host your own small event or workshop.  Check back often, as we will add new workshops and events throughout the year. Also, your ideas and suggestions are always welcome and encouraged.  If you have the desire to either teach or attend a workshop or event that is not already being offered at Glasshaus Italy, feel free to contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you and your vision.

The POWER of social media can really help make this project work. If what you’ve experienced  on our website and/or during your visit with us strikes a positive chord, please do 3 things: Join Glasshaus. Like this page on Facebook. Tell others.

Join us. Because creative communities don’t just happen…We have to create them 🙂

Peace and All the Best,

Lily, Tim and Siesta
